Sequoia Modernization

Project: Sequoia Modernization

General Use: Swing Space/Mathematics

Square Feet: N/A

Status: COMPLETE

Architect: Lionakis

Final Cost: $1,315,480.46

Construction Start: July 2013

Opening: February 2014

Project Goal

The Sequoia Building is a one story building with roughly 8,250 GSF. It currently houses the nursing program and other uses. Prior to this it was used for science labs and lecture classrooms. The nursing program is expected to move into the Redbud Building in an MJC project prior to construction start of this project.

The plan is to use this building as "swing space" (temporary housing) while the Manzanita Building is being renovated. We are anticipating that they would fit in and work around the existing classroom walls. We would include temporary power and data for the swing space needs some of which may come out after the swing space people move out.

Once the Manzanita project is complete and the tenants have all moved back in, the Sequoia Building will be converted to its final use as Mathematics labs, classrooms and offices.

Overview

The scope of work will include removing all science type equipment and casework and anything else not needed by the future classrooms. Capping all utility pipes behind new finished surfaces. ADA upgrades for restrooms and path of travel throughout the building along with required ADA upgrades. The project will include painting and patching of all existing walls and replacing all of the ceilings and flooring. The HVAC system should be replaced and any power modifications and fire alarm system upgrades. Most doors and windows would be saved.
